For as long as I can remember, I thought personal development was only for people who needed improvement in certain areas of their lives. Ridiculous, I know. So the first time I picked up a book that was considered personal development I was blown away and almost instantly changed my opinion of this genre of books.
Personal Development: the conscious pursuit of personal growth by expanding self-awareness and knowledge and improving personal skills.
In short, personal development is the pursuit of personal growth. This can be done by reading books, attending seminars or trainings, taking a cooking class – the possibilities truly are endless depending on what area of your life you want to improve or what skills you want to work on.
Over the last year, personal development has become a daily staple in my everyday life. Each morning I set aside anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes to read. Since getting into this habit I’ve noticed that I have a more positive outlook for the day ahead, I feel more level headed, and up for any challenge that might come my way. I’ve read books on self-confidence, how to develop habits, how to become a morning person, how to get outside of your comfort zone, and everything in between. The one thing all of these books have in common? They’ve all helped me in one way or another to be a better business owner (#girlboss), personal trainer, friend, wife, and daughter.
If you’re like I once was and you’re skeptical on how a book could help you, I challenge you to try reading one, even if it’s just one chapter. It just might change your life!
